Hi there Crusaders.
Today I’d like to quickly discuss adversity, and how it affects our lives.
Let’s start with the dictionary definition for the sake of clarity:
Adversity – noun (ad·ver·si·ti)
- adverse or unfavourable fortune or fate
- a condition marked by misfortune, calamity, or distress
- an adverse or unfortunate event or circumstance
OK, so I think it’s fair to say that nobody likes adversity.
In fact, many people believe it is the ultimate enemy and avoid difficult situations at all costs.
If they find an obstacle in their path, they run in the opposite direction and choose the path with the least resistance. Their dream is to live in a perfect world where nothing can harm them or make them feel pain.
I’m not being judgemental here, merely stating an observation. It’s not like you can blame people for acting like that. Let’s face it, it’s a self-preservation instinct bred into us back when we were still living in caves. In those days, adversity often meant imminent physical harm or death.
The only problem is that life doesn’t work that way…
In the real world, we always have new challenges and obstacles to overcome.
If our ancestors never faced adversity – If they had hidden from the lions and leopards of their world, then nobody would’ve ventured out to hunt, and they would quickly have starved to death.
So, back in the 21st century, what happens to those that do not like going through adversity? What happens to people who look for an easy way out of every problem they find?
At some point, they starve . . .
and, because they’ve spent their entire lives running away from obstacles, they just don’t have the strength to get back up.
So they surrender, and never achieve their dreams.
But you don’t have to be like that. You don’t have to be the type of person who runs away from obstacles. You don’t have to be afraid of the challenges life will bring to you in the future.
Instead, you can be the person that’s excited when they see a new obstacle.
By starting to see obstacles as opportunities.
That’s the key.
It seems obvious, doesn’t it. After all, those that have accomplished great things did not get to where they are because they didn’t have challenges to face.
Instead, they get to where they are because of the challenges, and because they confronted them.
Obstacles are the best teacher. They allow you to learn more about yourself than anything else ever could. They give you a clear vision of who you are.
And most importantly, they help prepare you for the battles still to come. They give you the confidence to tackle even greater adversity in the future.
When you start seeing obstacles as opportunities, you won’t be afraid of the future anymore. You will no longer try to avoid problems or difficulties. Instead, you’ll have the endurance to overcome any problem that might arise and conquer every challenge life puts in your way.
All because you know that obstacle that comes your way will only make you stronger. Remember that next time you are going through hard times.
YOU GROW THROUGH ADVERSITY
And how do you build the courage and determination you need to face your challenges?
Well, a great first step is to join a supportive community. A group of other entrepreneurs who are either busy attacking similar challenges or have just overcome them.
There are many groups out there that you can associate yourself with, and our FutureProof Crusaders community is one of them.
After that, the sky’s the limit.
I hope you have an awesome week.
Take care, and good luck out there.
