How to Avoid Distraction and Stay Focused

How easily do you lose focus?
We are so ‘plugged in’ to society these days that it’s far too easy to get distracted.

This is not really a new problem though. As far back as 2500 years ago, Aristotle and Socrates had already observed that we have a tendency to do things against our better interest.

We subconsciously look for distracting activities that are easier, more enjoyable, and less painful to do; even if we don’t actively mean to.

How to be successful in business

Wouldn’t it be awesome to have that one HUGE idea that will catapult you to the good life?

To create the next SpaceX, Microsoft, Amazon or Tesla?

Sadly, the reality is that ideas are a dime a dozen, and 99,9% of them never even get to the business planning phase.

Taking your ideas and turning them into profitable start-ups seems to be a talent possessed by a precious few.

Opportunity or Objection

Today we’re looking at a different approach to evaluating your mindset . . .
Starting with two simple questions.

Do you know how to encourage and enhance your opportunities?
Do you know how to manage and contain your grievances?

How do you know which course of action you’re taking at any moment?
In other words, are you opening doors or settling scores?

The limits of self-learning

Most of us go through the same phase when we start learning a new skill.

We believe we can learn everything by ourselves – that we don’t need any help.

After all, we’re entrepreneurs.

Blazing trails and being independent is what we do. Why ask for help when there’s a YouTube video, podcast, or blog post with the answer to every question under the sun?

Do you use momentum to your advantage?

This week I want to confront a myth that many people hold about how top achievers operate.

There is a broadly-held misconception that everything the successful minority do is based on their sheer willpower to succeed.

Now, I’m not saying that willpower isn’t important; it is – very important. You absolutely need it to get through tough obstacles and to persevere with your plan.

But, relying on willpower alone will never bring you success. Willpower gets depleted during the day as you make use of it. It is not an unlimited resource.

personal values, value ladder

Are You Living In Harmony With Your Unique Personal Value System?

This week I want to take a look at values.

Specifically, our personal value system that is unique to each of us.

Now values are the underlying motives behind purposeful action. They are the internal forces that drive us to act, and they come in many forms.

So, if we want to feel driven and motivated to achieve results, we have to ensure that our goals are in line with our values.

One decision – That’s all it takes

Do you set small, manageable goals so that you have a very high likelihood of achieving them?

Or do you set huge goals that you’ve got very little chance of achieving without superhuman effort?

You might think that by setting moderate, reachable goals, you’ll actually achieve them. That you’re setting yourself up for success. That you’d be more motivated because what you want seems easy to do.

And you would be wrong.

Are your goals big enough?

Do you set small, manageable goals so that you have a very high likelihood of achieving them?

Or do you set huge goals that you’ve got very little chance of achieving without superhuman effort?

You might think that by setting moderate, reachable goals, you’ll actually achieve them. That you’re setting yourself up for success. That you’d be more motivated because what you want seems easy to do.

Confronting Adversity

Adversity – noun (ad·ver·si·ti)

– adverse or unfavourable fortune or fate
– a condition marked by misfortune, calamity, or distress
– an adverse or unfortunate event or circumstance

OK, so I think it’s fair to say that nobody likes adversity.

In fact, many people believe it is the ultimate enemy and avoid difficult situations at all costs.

If they find an obstacle in their path, they run in the opposite direction and choose the path with the least resistance. Their dream is to live in a perfect world where nothing can harm them or make them feel pain.
